Our story
Why we built ConsentLab
ConsentLab wasn't born in a room full of product managers. It was born inside a French web agency that managed cookie compliance for dozens of client sites, and got tired of paying a fortune for a simple banner.
Who builds ConsentLab
ConsentLab is built by Bob le Développeur, a French web agency. We design custom sites and applications for small businesses, SMBs and other agencies. GDPR compliance is part of every project we ship: the moment a site drops an analytics or advertising cookie, it needs a valid consent banner.
It was by equipping our own clients, one site at a time, that the problem became obvious.
The problem we lived from the inside
Consent management platforms bill by domain. One client, one site, one subscription. Multiply that by thirty clients and the bill becomes absurd, especially for showcase sites that get a few hundred visits a month.
Worse: the so-called free plans stopped at fifty pages or two hundred visitors. Unusable in production. And when a client's traffic grew, their plan was bumped automatically, without warning. The bad surprise landed at the end of the month.
We looked for the tool we would have wanted to use. It didn't exist. So we built it.
What we decided to do differently
Four choices that come straight from what we would have wanted, as an agency.
Bill by sessions, not by domain
The only real cost is the infrastructure that handles requests. One account, as many domains as you want. Fifty sites at a hundred visits cost the same as one site at five thousand visits.
A free plan that is a real product
Five thousand sessions per month, unlimited domains, every compliance feature. No credit card. Not a crippled demo that pushes you to pay after fifty pages.
Your data stays in France
OVH hosting, in France. Your consent data and your visitors data never leave European soil. Compliant with GDPR and CNIL guidelines.
Inspectable code, human support
The widget is public and readable: no obfuscated code, no hidden tracking. And when you write to us, humans answer, not a chatbot.
From an internal tool to an open product
ConsentLab first ran on our own clients sites. Once it had proven itself, we opened it to the public. That is also why we care about a generous free plan: we know what it takes to equip lots of small sites without blowing a budget.
